The history of (brothels) Club Jan Bik

How it all started in 1969

Hoogachtend, Jan BikAbout 40 years ago, Jan Bik owned a bookstore in Amsterdam. It also stored "naughty magazines", which were actually quite innocent, compared to everything you see nowadays. The floor above the shop was unused and therefore rented to a beautiful young lady. Over some time, it became apparent that she received quite the numbers of male visitors. Jan Bik soon recognized the erotic potential. Ever since, he rents rooms to partners looking for an erotic adventure together. A civil, quaint atmosphere and satisfied customers proved itself to be a formula for success. Thus, his first Erotic Club, Brothel, Private Club, Sex Club, Cathouse, Massage Club or however you like to name it, was a fact.

Over the years new establishments joined the first and currently Jan Bik runs ten Clubs in total. Ofcourse the well-known and successful Jan Bik formula remained unchanged. Jan Bik rents the place and refurbishes it into a proper center of love, founded on mutual respect. Renting the rooms to all whom are seeking for a place to make love and explore their desires.

In the first 30 years, no permit was required for Club Jan Bik. This was under the so called "gedoog" policy; a policy where something which is officially illegal, is never the less allowed under general consent. In the year 2000, erotic clubs (brothels) were finally legalised, something Jan Bik was fighting for from the start. Ever since all Jan Bik Clubs comply with regulation and have all the necessary permits.

But in the end, after 10 years, all the legalisation could offer was rules for clubs which were already "legal". Instead of consequent and proper policy, which could have brought more certainty and improved quality, 60% of the erotic sector has disappeared. Which effectively means that the visible and thus controllable clubs have gone bankrupt and must surely have been replaced by illegal equivalents. A direct effect of uncooperative local officials and the focus (for a large part by tax officials) on visible clubs. Leaving illegal escorts, hotel prostitution and women traffickers undisturbed.

Unfortunately Jan Bik can not agree with the tax authority, about the kind of relation between Club Jan Bik and the independent Girls of Pleasure. The discussions and lawsuits concerning this matter costs a great deal of negative energy. And after 10 years of dedication, the tax authority still has not found a constructive way how to cope with the erotic sector in a respectful manner.

Club Jan Bik is a member of the only organisation who represents erotic clubs in the Netherlands: the VER. However, this does not mean that Club Jan Bik agrees with the VER on all matters. In the matter of work relations in erotic clubs, his point of view opposites that of the VER. Feel free to request more information on this matter at info@janbik.nl

Customers are welcomed in our clubs for over 40 years now. Club Jan Bik has always done, and will always do everything to make sure customers feel that every need and desire is fulfilled.
